Announcing: Graphic Content - THE INCREDIBLES!

Graphic Content, The Metro Cinema at the Garneau Theatre and Comics! The Blog present:

Much adorbs

Over the last few years, we’ve had some great experiences working with Matt and Erin at Graphic Content and presenting some screenings of movies that are near and dear to our hearts. Our first time out, we co-presented a screening of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. In 2012, we were lucky enough to co-present Josie and the Pussycats, one of our all-time favourite comic book movies. And now, in the second-last-ever Graphic Content screening, we’re extraordinarily lucky to co-present one of our favourite (if not our absolute favourite) superhero movie, The Incredibles!

THE MOVIE:

Times have been tough for Mr. Incredible, aka Bob Parr (Craig T. Nelson), as a government crackdown on all caped crusaders has led him to a crushingly boring job, an ever-expanding waistline, and a life of obscurity in the suburbs. That all changes when he’s called in for a series of secret assignments dealt out by a mysterious benefactor (Jason Lee). When Mr. Incredible disappears after one of these missions, his wife, the former heroine known as Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), must team up with his gifted kids Dash and Violet to crack the case and bring the culprit in for justice, one last time. The Incredibles is a love letter to the atomic era aesthetics of comics’ glory days and the greatest depiction of superhero family dynamics ever seen on film.

THE DETAILS:

As the amazing poster by Andrea Brown above says, the screening is at 7:oopm on Tuesday, May 20th, 2014, at the Metro Cinema at the Garneau Theatre! The movie starts at a family friendly hour, so feel to bring anyone of any age that you think might have a good time. The movie runs for 115 minutes. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors. Metro Passes will be accepted. Box office opens at 6:15!

Make sure to come on by early to check out the comics we’ve selected to go with the movie and check out our colouring table, where kids of all ages can… uh… “experiment” with the colour palette.

THE STUFF COMING SOON:

In the week before the show, make sure to keep checking Comics! The Blog and Graphic Content for daily articles about the curated book list and maybe even for a special article about what the movie and its ideas can teach us about storytelling.

THE THANKS:

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Matt, Erin and the wonderful people at The Metro Cinema for being our partners in this ridiculous fun over the last few years. It’s been a blast, and while it probably won’t be the last time we work with Matt and Erin, we’d be remiss if we didn’t say, genuinely and in a heartfelt way, how great all this has been. Stay tuned for the sequel.
